As you have seen in the local paper this week they aske me to say in one word to sum up Dover but I also said more that did not get put in,and one was that I do not blame just the blues about it but all partys that have had the power in Dover over the last 40years, Like the good book tells us you have seven good years then seven bad years and like it tells us in the good book if you do not put by and save for the bad years in the good years then you have had it,and that did not only happen in Dover but the UK and the world they did not put anything by for the bad times,so we will not get anything none major till the good years return if they do.

Was the single word of yours that they used, by any chance...'optimistic'?
I did notice that the paper had an online poll, but the options were hardly inspiring.

I think that's unfair Vic.
We need to talk Dover up and it can depend on where you are as to what you may think of Dover.
The seafront is beautiful.
The history is amazing
The cliff-top walks are exhilerating and wonderful
The surrounding countryside is exceptional
The parks and gardens are superb
The potential is awesome
The future is bright, we just want it all to start.

You are not reading what I put down Mr Walkden please read it again. The public see Dover as it is they do not have to be told about what is there and what is not.

One of the reasons I don't particularly like the 'cut and paste' mentality is because you are getting a journalist's opinion, and an edit to fit the available column inches, which leaves everything open to interpretation and editing. Some of the famous examples are the quotes on advertising posters for musicals, where it migh say, 'It is amazing...' (Daily Blurb), when the whole quote could be, 'it is amazing that this show has stayed open more than one night,.
And of course you then get the partisan mentality who will read whatever suits their point of view in an article anyway.

When talking about the main part of the town rather than the seafront or countryside, in places is rundown and completely unkempt looking.
I went up Folkestone Road this morning for the first time in ages and the town end of the road is really awful looking, the same goes for the areas Vic mentioned.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

There is no joy in keep going round and seeing Dover the way it is and Mr Walkden you can not chalk up what is not there and keep on about the potential is awesome ,sir we have been saying things like that for over 40 years I for one is sick of hearing about it.Action Is what the public want to see not talk, and yet more talk . I do not think your district leader will stand again and some ways I will be sorry to see him go he knows what needs to be done but he does not have the means to carry it on and alot of his team of cllrs need to hang up their hats to.Some of the depts and officers of the D,D,C, are very good and help the public agreat deal.but that does not count for the bad planning office and the way it is at this very time.

The traffic situation is very grim.
If Farthingloe were built up, Folkestone Road will be even more congested, and the town centre too.
And imagine 6,000 more cars streaming daily in and out of Whitfield down Barton Road and up London Road.
And 500 more cars coming in and out of Guston.

Couldn't agree more Roger...
The future could well be bright, we just need people with vision and investment to realise it. Unfortunately, it is the likes of Vic that get their opinions into print and that just plain scares off people. The same goes for Alexander and Lorraine, their NIMBYistic campaign against developments at the Heights and Farthingloe are simply damaging for Dover.

I do understand what you are saying MR Isles.I do not agree that what I say scares off the public, I think that the developments at both the Heights and Farthingloe should go ahead A.S.P. but it is all the talking that has been done by all partys when in power at Dover what they are going to do and nothing has been done for over 40years,I just hope that the developments in your post go ahead before I died.I would like to see Dover going up before that happens as well.
