Is nowhere safe? Apparently Keith Vaz MP has an ipad and computer nicked from his office in the HofC. This follows other recent thefts from the Norman Shaw north building.
If they catch the thief it will be interesting to see what MP's reaction will be when some namby pamby judge gives the thief community service.

Well at least we cant blame Mr Morley for that one Marek...Morley is now languishing at Her Majesty's Pleasure following his 18 months jail term yesterday for tea-leafing. Blatant tea-leafing. It is re-assuring is it not to see Ministers or former Ministers I should say..go to jail for crimes against the purse. Re-assuring, as its normally just ordinary folk who suffer the wrath of the law.

Totally agree so how come Laws was let off? Is it one rule for fat and ugly ministers and another for demure blonde haired gays?
It would also appear that Huhne faces yet more problems as two former aides (et tu
Brute) and Lib Dem councillors accused him of lying over '£60,000 election expenses'
Making a false declaration of election expenses can lead to a year's imprisonment. Last night the Electoral Commission confirmed that it was considering their claims, which Mr Huhne and his agent firmly deny. What with a police interview next week and now this it looks like Huhne's days are numbered.

Laws was not let off Marek. He was suspended from Parliament and it was found that his motivation was not to defraud and in fact could have claimed more if he had been honest about his relationship.

I think the gay issue did play a part in him being let off..although wasnt there some rumblings in the past day or two that he might be charged with something.
WE the masses were all supposed to shriek in horror at the seven days suspension from the House, and a lot of spinning went on about how awful this 7 day suspension was. I didnt see the awfulness of it myself nor did the general population.
It is amazing how the one time squeeky clean sandal wearing woolly jumpered Libdems have succumbed to sin like the rest of us. I thought they were above all that. The Huhne situation has more to run yet...it definitely has the aroma of rotten eggs..

very few people believe that barry, he didn't give the fiddled money to charity, he kept it for himself.
i don't believe that the m.p.'s should got to prison, most of them are talented and can work for charities for nothing making them money s a punishment.
we need those prison places for the violent offenders.

They propbably get fairly cosy open prison places but we have seen a number go inside over the years including Jeffrey Archer and Jonathan Aitkin..however in both their cases it was a good career move as both are making money out of their recollections.
But yes while I agree prison places should be primarily for violent criminals there are many other crimes where incarceration is appropriate. Some of these MP swindling cases have been outrageous in their arrogance and most showing utter contempt for the people who put them in high public office.
Besides an MP working for charity in a high st near you would be no hardship at all...they would probably enjoy the limelight. People at large are outraged by the stealing that went on...one needs only to tune in to the BBC's Question Time to see it. So prison looks the realistic option.

I don't give a toss about Laws motivation ..he was as guilty as an alcoholic stealing a bottle of vodka from the co-op or a hungry person nicking a loaf from Greggs. It is this sort of double standards that really gets my left wing socialist foot moving in the general direction of the MP's pippa middletons..pert or otherwise.

As I have advocated before on DF we should introduce 'weekend' jails where white collar crimbo's are allowed to continue in some form of employment during the week but are tagged to prevent them going out in the evening but at weekends are banged up in a special low cat nick thus depriving them of their leisure time and incarcerating them which in itself is a form of punishment.

when i said about working for a charity i was referring to them using their talents at writing articles, books or even fund raising.
most of these people are talented enough to earn tens of thousands for deserving causes in next to no time.
just imagine if archer was not sent to prison and wrote a best seller instead, he would have cost us nothing to keep and made a small fortune for a charity.
instead he cost us a fortune to keep him and he made a fortune out of it.
If any other employee had knowingly claimed more money than they should im pretty sure they would be out of a job , im sure this point has been made many more times before .

quite right mark, in real life it would be the order of the boot for any kind of petty cash fiddle let alone the big amounts swindled here.
the coalition has to be very careful how they play this.
