BarryW is right to raise the A word - aparteid. If the communities entering a host nation fail to integrate they are in effect annexing themselves - andf yet expecting the host to change to accommodate them. I think whatever our political hue the majority of people are weary of "adapting" and thinking twice before mentioning Christmas, or black coffee, or having to file every possible cultural celebration int eh calendar lest we leave some tiny minority out of our congratulations and felicitations.

It really isn't about preventing anything, it's about cohesing. It isn't about refusing to accept immigrants - the UK is a brilliant host nation - but it is about the immigrantsd adapting rather than the host. The USA does it reasonably well - many immigrants there have been happy to fall in with the host culture, celebrating the opportunities it brings, without in the least abandoning their own. we have done no-one any favours with our bend over backwards approach, and I think we may have done irreperable damage to the West in the process - encouraging other cultures to think they have a claim to us.
