The White Horse, International!!
- 13 September 2010 20:3170368This is Tony, (originally from Surrey), and his lovely wife from Argentina pictured above, who were passenger`s on the cruise ship in port today. I make no apologies for once again mentioning the White Horse on the forum, but it seem`s to be one of the favourite attractions of Dover, and spreads the word around the whole globe of both Dover and the forum. Prior to this couple arriving, there was another pleasant couple in here from Canada, both very pleasant people, and clearly enjoying Jeanette`s hospitality. No sooner had Tony and his dear wife departed, than another couple, Bill and his dear wife Ella arrived, both from the same cruise ship, and from New York, but residing in Florida. It added an international flavour to The White Horse, and it was a great lunchtime and afternoon there with a wonderful atmosphere of talk between us all, they simply loved Dover. All these tourist`s said they were looking for a traditional English pub, and didn`t like what they saw in town. They found The White Horse via a brochure. Does this tell you something???

And for heaven`s sake, I only went in there for one dinnertime pint! I shall be emailing the picture`s above to these lovely people, who have nothing but praise for Dover, and who were originally booked to arrive in Amsterdam, but due to weather condition`s, were rerouted to Dover instead, according to Bill. There needs to be a sign in the Market Square at the bus stop, to direct cruise line passenger`s to our oldest pub and church!

13 September 2010 21:3970397I have come to the conclusion that certain members have shares in the White Horse as they are always promoting it.
Are there no other pubs in Dover that members visit.-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

It certainly has the best atmosphere of any pub in Dover thanks to Jeanette, even with just half a dozen customers in - now as it happens I'm trying to sell a flat just round the corner if any of you regulars want a nice close crash pad - 13 September 2010 22:0070406I have not one share in the White Horse Jan, and I have visited other pubs, but this one always comes out tops! The pub is reputed to be the oldest one in Dover, it has a wonderful atmosphere whenever I`m in there, (usually once, maybe twice a week), and Jeanette has a bubbly personality which is vital for any business, anywhere, to survive. It`s unique with it`s variety of visitor`s. Other member`s are free to promote their own favourite`s for whatever reasons. Email me Jan if you ever fancy one, any pub you choose. the white horse is the type of pub that people from overseas expect to see when they arrive here.

Howard, all the pubs I visited in my courting days, most were clicky, and none had the atmosphere of this one, and of course, the forum here has really put it on the map. (Not me). I didn`t know they`d taken one of me taking them. A very pleasant couple, and so full of praise for the pub, Jeanette and Dover itself. Yet why do just a handful decide to visit locally, while literally, thousand`s of other`s choose to go elsewhere? Maybe this pub circuit idea that Jeanette mention`s elsewhere could be somehow used in the tourist brochure? Good English food especially.

always get a smile and wave in the WH and i have to say it may be a drive down the road to the pub.. but i count it as my local..
