Re my photo in #78 it seems the occasion may be the arrival of the Frence President in 1908:
"Warships Thunder Salutes
London May 26 1908
On the arrival of the President's yacht Leon Gambretta at Dover, it was met by a flotilla of British destroyers and escorted to a point off Shakespeare's Cliff, where the fleet lay, decked in garlands.
The British war-ships were drawn up in two lines and as the Leon Garbetta steamed between them they thundered salutes, while their bands played the 'Marsillaise" and the bluejackets who manned the yards cheered again and again. The President was greatly pleased with the cordiality of his welcome"
