16:3274523 Well, on this brilliant warm Summer`s day, a walk up Langdon Cliff`s, and a glance in the channel, I spotted the `Waverley` not too far off the beach, and two incoming ferries appeared to be sideways on, as if to give ferry passenger`s a view of her. Ed can say whether that happen`s or not. Anyway, I was going to postpone a walk to St Margaret`s Bay, as I thought she was heading for the port, when she began turning and then ultimatley heading back from whence she came. Pure luck I was up there, or does she normally do these trips? I know she was in the port last month.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

16:3374524I am hoping that she wasn`t visible from our sea front in order to get this exclusive scoop.

I was at NT Langdon Cliffs at about 1230hrs to-day.
The Waverley came accross the harbour (from Eastern Entrance) towards western side of harbour but as I had to leave didn't see where she went.

20:1874570Pat, my camera tell`s me my picture`s were taken at 11.20, so I assume the Waverley turned back again toward`s Dover? I know the tide was out, was it avoiding shallow water?
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

20:2674572I dare say I am in a rather unique position with regards the "Waverley".
I had the pleasure of sailing in this ship back in 1947 when she was in service on the river clyde.
I at the time paid 6d to travel from Dunoon to Gourock, which saved an 80 mile round trip for any one trying to get to Glasgow. Should point out that I was just a boy then but we did the trip just for the pleasure it gave us.

07:0674607lol! Colin I did indeed see her yesterday but as it was hazy couldnt get a good shot....so you got an exclusive ! She didnt come inside the harbour, not that I saw anyway, but appeared to be going back and forth on some kind of mechanical manouver in the area below the White Cliffs. We have a good picture of her in the archives but cant look right now as bit pushed for time at the moment.
Good one Jimmy.
It used to stop off here and take passengers to Tower Bridge.

08:4574622Thanks Paul A.
When I saw her she was inside the harbour moving from Eastern entrance to western side as per post 4 above. Thought she would either be going to Prince of Wales Pier or somewhere in the Western Dock complex.

09:5574630Shame I missed her, I would have like to see her close-up.
Are you sure she didn't take her passengers to the Tower

11:5074635I heard on radio Kent this morning that PS Waverley is being used for the final scenes of the new Sherlock Holmes film being made now. They apparently show a person at the stern of the ship looking back towards Dover with the white cliffs in the background.
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

12:2774640As Scotchie says above, there is a superb set of photos on Dover Ferry Photos Forum from my old chum Marconista, plus additional information from the pilot who attended for her departure from Harwich, quote "She was filmed under the white cliffs as day broke for the new Sherlock Holmes film. She left Harwich on Sunday morning bound for Tilbury via Clacton, then on for her rendezvous at first light off Dover. Glad she made it. It looks like the call at Dover was for bunkers which they originally planned to take at Tilbury, but plan "A" didn't work, also they had seven film cameras on board which were probably landed at the same time! I expect Capt Ian Clark enjoyed his fleeting visit to Dover, being an ex DHB employee. I piloted her out of Harwich on Sunday morning which I always find a treat, but it was strange that the previous ship I was on was Emma Maersk! Certainly a job of contrasts!"

I took a few rather indifferent photos of her stooging about off Dover, see fotopic site below:
