At this time you have seen on your TVsets about the above virus, what they are not telling you is ,that if you have no spleen it is a killer. So do not go to Brazil or any parts of the world that have it.And if you have already been out there and comeback go and see your GP A.S.P. that is for members that have no spleen .
Within the last hour I have been emailed again asking me to get my fact sheets out again. There is a webb site that have all my details or just aske me for one. Because of my age I stopped my work and working with the NHS about this but looks like that some members of the public without spleen still need to be told of the risk of life after having your spleen removed.

Yes sorry about that, You should think again about going to Mexico and not go .I hope your partner is getting the Pneumovax 11 each five years. When you lookup about the spleen you will come across my name and my fact sheets Drs still work off it today ,they go out all round the world even today,I still get emails from Drs and members of the public. You can get my fact sheet from myself or GPS and NHS outlets. Our son died at the age of 20 many years ago thats how we found out so much about the spleen and even today members of my family are having their spleens removed ,one in a few weeks time.We run the Kent Splenectomy trust till I got to old. Your partner should also have antibiotics at home. Some Drs might say she does not need them well let me tell you she does one day they could save her life.Thank you.She should also carry the card which we had made up around with her 24/7

If you log into a webb site called life after Spenectomy it will tell you all you need to know .
This site was set up after I closed down the Kent Spenectomy trust.

Thanks for info Vic, she has been well informed by her doctors and has had seemingly all necessary vaccines, having rheumatoid arthritis (probably because of weakened immune system) as well you would expect her to be at deaths door, but she has a stronger constitution than most and rarely gets even a sniffle. Had a worrying time a few years back when she had to take a course of corticosteroids for unrelated issues but was again well looked after by a very knowledgeable Dr Witherington at K & C. Sadly know retired.
We have a cupboard full of various drugs and antibiotics that would put a pharmacist to shame.
We shall decide about Mexico shortly, though her attitude is "we all have to die sometime".
I'll just check the life insurance policy is up to date!

Thank you for your feed back ,but please do not go and you not even get the insurance needed to go there, you need to get the fact sheet even over in the UK there things you must do and not do, the first is to stay a way from some wild life like the Dear they have a tick which is bad for anyone who does not have a spleen.

Let me tell you some more of what can happen after a moss/bite if you have no spleen Pneumococeal Septicamia can go to the brain within hrs and that can be a killer if not treated within hrs. In some parts of the world you can be many miles from the treatment you would need ,and some Drs would not even know what was wrong with you at the time ,and time is the one thing you would not have on your side.

I can see Zika getting over in the UK once the weather gets hot in a few weeks time and the female mosquito will love our pot holes in the roads to have their young after a rain fall. And this is

not joking.
