The post you are reporting:
Alexander D, to quote you:
"Should you wish to run a thread on aliens, I will not join in, as they do not exist."
Such certainty! Unlike religion and God, which requires zero proof and maximum faith, I'm afraid aliens are a scientific proposition and as such evidence is required either way. You may be certain, perhaps in your own mind, that there is a god because faith is flexible to this personal conclusion, but you can NOT say with any certainty that aliens do not exist. The universe is a big place and the conditions that resulted in life can be replicated elsewhere. If you are claiming that earth is the only planet with life on it then I'm afraid you will need to back it up with proof. Biblical quotes won't do either - this simply isn't proof of anything.
Science is living in a current state of utter doubt about aliens, investigating the universe via the Hubble telescope and the SETI project among other things in order to seek for answers to questions which we'd all like to know. Until evidence is presented one way or another, we can never actually know for sure.
I'd love it if we discovered aliens, it would be a magnificent and wonderful moment in human history, but I ain't holding my breath for it. But as for believing in aliens? What can I say? We're not talking about science fiction monsters or supernatural forces here, we're simply talking about biological entities, like ourselves, that evolved on a different planet perhaps under different chemical conditions. The idea doesn't sound so mad to me!
