on radio 4 this morning a presenter when speaking to our culture sceretary mr jeremy hunt, inadvertently mispronounced his name by getting the first letter of his surname wrong, the presenters name was james naughtie(i kid you not) he later apologised, then andrew marr did exactly the same.
worth the licence fee alone.

This has been a big but oddball funny story today...we all clearly know what he said as it rhymes with Jeremy Hunt, but how he made such a clanger I dont know...but it could happen to a saint I guess.
I didnt hear the offending moment, but I heard him ( James Naughtie ) apologising at about 8.20. I was listening earlier and later but missed the offending bit in the middle. Needless to say I was gutted at having missed the big moment.
But this is middle England's big news programme and I bet the phonelines at the BBC were zzzzinging!
As Howard mentions there Jeremy Hunt is the Coalition Minister, he was rather anonymous before but I suspect this will give him a higher profile!

some might call it a freudian slip paul, i suspect that it was all about office banter. everyone has nicknames for their least favourite client.
back when firms employed y.t.s. kids a firm called simpsons used to really annoy me, i asked the lad to get "simpletons" on the blower, seconds later i heard him say "can i speak to mr simpleton please?"!!
i had some talking to do then.

Thanks for the link Tony, priceless! Almost as good as "Johnners" describing a legover!
As always, the best bit is the "corpsing" afterwards.

Yes indeed a good link there Tony. What a clanger. Thats the first time Ive heard it although as I mentioned earlier I heard the apology later on the day. As Terry says there the immediate choking afterwards is quite rivetting.
I guess thats what they call the guy when they talk about him off air!!
Its in all the newspapers today I believe including a big picture feature on the frontpage of The Times.

I guess the "coughing" was James Naughtie suppressing his laughter ?
