dover came out very well on recent recycling figures whilst ashford was among the worst performing council.
I would have thought that overall more people were recycling but the article suggests not.
it remains to be seen how many containers we end up with.

I think there is bit of a backlash because of reports that at times everything goes to landfill, personally I would prefer recyclables all mixed together and sorted at the special recycling plant I have seen on a TV programme.
I know some who live in smallish flats who say they cannot be bothered going downstairs with various containers and prefer to bung everything into a black sack then into the rubbish bin. To a certain extent I can understand their reasoning but do not approve.

Let's face it you have to be a bit sad and a real recycling obsessive to spend any more than three seconds on sorting your rubbish into separate bins and boxes. In the weird world of mad Ed Miliband or Caroline Lucas and other odd folk doing all this makes perfect sense. For the rest of us just filling up a black bin liner makes more sense and is far more rewarding and environmentally good than wasting precious family time doing an unpaid job which should be done by the council.

The stupidest thing is, they say before putting your tins, bottles, jars, etc. in the recycling you should wash them out. How much hot water does that take and how green is that?

if there is a top to a bottle or jar then I don't rinse them out but use washing up water on tins.
let's not forget that bins have more than one use.
