  I've still got Bert Weedon's "Play in a Day" somewhere. Just about anyone who plays guitar must have started with that. Rather an optimistic title though.

  I went through the Big Bill Broonzy school but I did see Bert Weedon at Plymouth's Palace Theatre in 1961 - the Temperance Seven (remember them?) were on the same bill. Bert was a pure showman, slick and flawless.
  
  What's particularly saddened me is the death of Levon Helm, formerly of The Band. A thoroughly decent man with a tangible enthusiasm for his music. Sadly this leaves only Robbie Robertson and Garth Hudson left.

  I have some old Bert Weedon 45s. He was named "Guitarist of the Year" back in the 60s. Obviously a product of their age, but good.

  At last I can add my appreciation of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band to the conversation in quoting a line or two from one of their songs...
