Scotchie: Super picture. My black and white aerial image is an undated one I obtained off Ebay. Think it is probably a Skyfoto and they were in colour by 1979. Also the destroyer in the background would have been long in the tooth by 1979. Therefore I suspect that the photo may date from the Queen's visit in 1958, clip below Googled from the Montreal Gazette.
The greetings card is one I purchased in the Post Office in Bench Street many years ago. Topically, the three radar masts can be seen in the background. Now the Royal Yacht has been pensioned off without replacement, the radar masts are down to two and living on borrowed time, and the port itself is about to be flogged off. Remember when we were proud to be British?
JHG: The Oslo in port is the Stemat Oslo which is a multi-purpose barge on the Eastern Arm. The three masted schooner is the Eendracht which is a Dutch sail training ship for youngsters.
