The real meaning of Christmas...

  is not about regaling kids with the latest x-box games, filling our bellies with more food than we can safely eat, wishing all our acquaintances more or less sincere greetings of the season and taking time off work. It should be a time of peaceful contemplation and family bonding.
  
  You don't have to be black to admire Nelson Mandela. You don't have to be a Hindu to admire Mahatma Gandhi. Likewise you don't have to be a Christian to respect Jesus Christ and his message of peace and goodwill.
  
  But, whether you are religious or not, if you aren't even slightly moved by ?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>this, you really must have a heart of stone.

  I must have a heart of stone then. As far as I'm concerned its a stupid time of year to have a holiday, dark, cold and wet, and the fact tat you can't get away from it drives me nuts.
  Went shopping on saturday. Asda had a brass band playing xmas songs, can't put up with that, so we drove around the corner to Tesco, they had one too ! The next thing will be all the hilarious happy drunk revellers staggering about vomiting everywhere and the false camaraderie of people who can't stand each other for most of the year.
  And the rubbish on TV when we're almost imprisoned in our own homes by the festive holiday. I'll be glad when its all over, including the 'happy new year' rubbish, and we can all get back to normal.
  I hate it.

  Spot on Peter-there is still a chance for peace and good will for all mankind. But...by what is going on around us it will be close run thing! As you imply, all this starts on a personal level with those close to you. Christmas is an ideal time for family get togethers when at least for a few days we can count our blessings and all the negativity and aggression in the world can be funnelled away into oblivion.An exercise of the imagination? Sure...but it's the first step towards a prosperous reality. The prosperity I'm referring to here is nothing to do with being cash rich or being a dole scrounger,or socialism or even corporate profit. It's about abundance (yep that's the biblical one) for all-spiritually and materially. Utopia? ... on a lengthy, maybe apocalyptic road is on its way- how do we know this?- well no direct answer appears to be available but who can deny that there is hope?
