Over the last week between 3am and 5am our locked green food waste caddy has been broken into with its contents having either disappeared or been distributed over our back yard. The perpetrator(s) were very selective it what was taken or rejected.
Recently we have had foxes in our garden and considered them to be the culprits as these wily urban foragers get more brazen every year and have seen them near our bins on several occasions.
We are not far from Victoria and Connaught Parks and have a wildlife habit all around us.
Intent of finding the perpetrator(s) when I heard the caddy being rolled over again and dragged across the concrete outside our back door at 3am, I was determined to investigate.
Ah Right! - just like the "secret lemonade drinker" of ad. fame - I tiptoed down the stairs torch and camera at the ready. I thought at least when I lifted the blind and shone the torch it would scare off the rampacious villain(s).
Once and for all I would get to find out in black and white what was behind the mystery.
I lifted the blind and switched on the torch. The light did not deter the predator for one single instant. It (or possibly them) was far too intent on retrieving the content of the caddy, discarding the compostable bag and selecting its meal.
There it was in full black and white - brock the badger
DDC please note: Your lock down green food waste caddies may be fox proof but they are certainly not badger proof.
I now have to hide away the caddy every night by placing it inside the blue wheelie bin.
