Was going to open a thread on the Deputy Prime Minister's proposal for a temporary tax on the super-rich, but then discovered it has been brought up here.

The proposal is certainly a step in the right direction.
Unless the super-rich start paying more money to the Treasury, the national debt will not be reduced, but will continue rising.

Labour clearly have not distanced themselves from T. Blair's policies of super-capitalism, which allowed the super-rich to drain masses of financial wealth from the economy while sponging the economy into bankruptcy.

One doesn't have to be a LibDem to applaud Nick Clegg's proposal that the stink rich pay up.

    Sky News reports:
"Senior Tory backbencher Bernard Jenkin attacked the idea, and said Mr Clegg's proposal could 'strangle the goose that lays the golden egg'."

Here it is appropriate to note that the super-rich have strangled the economy and gobbled up all the golden eggs, and keep doing so, so soon as we the working people lay them!

Bernard Jenkin then went on to make the very silly remark:
"I think most rich people are contributing far more in tax than other people."

What can one say: if someone has tens/hundreds of millions of pounds in private assets, they are likely to pay "more tax" than someone on £6.13 an hour!

It's about time Dave Cameron broke clean with this sort of bank-benching drivel from some Tory members, and paid more attention to working with the Deputy Prime Minister to make sure the stink-rich pay up!
