Got my first one this afternoon which makes me "one of the chaps" I suppose. I was expecting it to feel more like plastic but it feels like high quality smooth, very thin paper. Apparently certain serial numbers make some of them worth a lot more than face value.

I haven't had one yet,
Just looked on eBay and seen a bit of a fail...
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-5-Note-/262639895430 sold for just £4.84 including delivery, take off the PayPal fee / the eBay fee and the postage price the seller will be lucky to get £3.50.
This time next year, he'll not be a millionaire

Make the most of it. It won't be long before it's only the poor who will have 'money'.

(For as long as I can remember I've been banging on about the idiocy of carting round loads of metal to either buy stuff or to unlock stuff. Just think, with one biometric ID, it could be used as a payment/debit card AND allow assess to any door authorised. We're getting there!)

Cards can be stolen. Surely a combination of microchipping and contactless payment is the future.

The Biometric ID would of course have an RFID (just as the present iteration of passports has and as is also used for contactless payment).
As for problems with forgery/theft etc, as I was told many years ago, 'all security will ever buy you is time'.
BTW ignore the hyperlink in my post above. Here's the one I meany to put in:-

Going off at a tangent when in Italy in the late 70s there was always a shortage of coins although plenty of 50 lira notes going around worth about 2p each. Most people paid fares on buses by coins and the drivers never emptied them. It came as a surprise to be given a toffee as change in a bar sometimes.

All change in our change as a new pound coin comes in looking like a slimmed down threepenny bit. Will cost businesses and local authorities a lot of money.
