courtesy of stagecoach buses.
this sort of thing usually happens in deprived inner city areas, not kentish villages.
Due to recent acts of vandalism against Stagecoach buses in Elvington we will no longer be serving St Johns Road with immediate effect. This affects the following services:
1645 '89' Dover to Canterbury, 1713 '88' Dover to Elvington, 1745 '89A' Dover to Canterbury, 1843 '89' Dover to Elvington, 1942 '89' Dover to Elvington, 2157 '89' Dover to Elvington ALSO1605 '89' Canterbury to Dover, 1710 '89' Canterbury to Dover, 1740 '89' Canterbury to Dover, 1910 '89' Canterbury to Dover and the 2227 '89' Elvington to Dover.
1700 '88' Ramsgate to Dover and 1713 '88' Dover to Ramsgate.
89 Services will continue through Elvington on Adelaide Road and will not serve St Johns Road. The late 89 service which serves Elvington then returns to Dover will turn back at White Horse and will not serve Elvington.
88 services will not serve Elvington.
If the acts of vandalism continue we will have no choice but to withdraw all Elvington services, we will monitor the situation closely and we will endeavour to find a resolution to this problem. We regret any inconvenience caused as a result of this decision but we must act in the interests of safety for both our passengers and staff. If you require further information please contact our Call Centre on 08456 00 22 99. We will update this information as soon as possible.

The same thing happened several years ago Howard. I thought it had been sorted out. A minority spoiling it for the majority

Serious stuff eh ?
It's a pity the yobs can get away with their bad behaviour, the consequences of which affect others less able.

someone must know who the culprits are, not that many people live there.
they have to speak up otherwise stagecoach will withdraw all services helping to make the village a no go area.
Did you see that yobs have chucked a concrete block off a road bridge in Essex and a woman has life-threatening injuries after it hit the car in which she was a passenger? Police are, rightly, treating it as attempted murder.

Elvington has suffered for some time with these types of incidents, of course you have a driver on his own in the middle of no where
sad they spoil it for everyone

this is where the concept of the big society fails, people must know who the herberts are and will not say.
2 likely reasons.
a) i do not want to get involved.
b) i am frightened of repercussions.
i will leave members to dwell on how this extends into their lives when the localism bill comes into being.

There are times when the Big Society must be brave, this appears to be one of them.
Some years ago I was on the Dover to Ramsgate Bus, which went via Buckland Estate, stopped there to pick up a youth who swore at the driver as he got on. The driver just sat there having a string of abuse hurled at him, and then told the youth to leave the bus, and would not start the bus up again until the offender had got off. Immediately the youth got off the bus, no less than three people on the bus came forward and gave the driver their names and contact numbers in case he needed witnesses. That was certainly the Big Society in action, which could be useful now.

indeed kath, would you have stepped forward if no-one else had?
i am lucky where i live we have the hourly bus during daytime, the drivers and passengers are on first name terms.
the ones that are unsteady on their legs get dropped outside their house rather than at the next bus stop and when someone does not turn up at the usual time questions are asked by both drivers and passengers.
the community spirit we have is not always so evident elsewhere.

I did hear that news Bern. absolutely disgraceful - this can't be classed as fun and I hope they do catch the culprits and charge them with attempted murder.

Had the following in from Wendy Hansell
Many thanks Wendy will add your email below....

Hi Paul,
I am not a member of the Dover Forum but I am an active part of Elvington as I have run a jnr. youth club for the last 11 years. This is also a ward that I represented at DDC for 8 years. I feel that I need to point out that the people of Elvington have been speaking out for months now. We do know who is causing the problems. They are DDC tenants who have been moved from another area because of the problems they created there. They are youngsters who feel that they are invincible because as yet with all the evidence that has been presented to DDC, police and social services etc. nothing has been done. Don't blame the people who are putting their neck on the block but ask questions of the agencies involved.
Regards

Thanks Wendy - hope the relevant agencies get on top of this problem; moving the yobs around doesn't solve anything long-term.

sounds like the usual thing of one household out of control making lives a misery.
we had that problem a few years back, evidence compiled and presented to the agencies but nothing done about it.

About a year ago I attended an Eythorne parish council meeting when CI Ken Elmes was making a presentation to show that doubling the area our local PC had to cover was in everyone's interests. I brought up the problem of Elvington yobs riding illegal motorcycles all over Eythorne on Sunday afternoons and was advised to call the police if it happened again. Each tine I did so, they arrived a good hour after the miscreants had departed.

yes if they ask you to ring peter then it should be a higher priority.
iv sat on a bus coming down melbourne avenue over the rail bridge someone lobbed a brick at the window shattering it of course it was nite no one about
i gave my name to the driver didnt hear any more
wendy is right though the agencies need to work together on how to solve some of these problems, also on the bigger picture those causing the problems if caught need to know they will be dealt with severely

The buses on those timings tend to be the older variety without cctv. Perhaps changing the buses might be an answer.

Well said you Terry. That is a thoroughly spiffing idea, worthy of a Blue-Peter badge.
