Re post #6: HMS Sphinx was a Halcyon class minesweeper which was sunk off the East coast of Scotland.
A bomb exploded up forward in the mess deck and caused the entire forecastle plating to be folded back across the Bridge. Quite extraordinary and I remember seeing a remarkable photo of same many years ago, similar to the small one in the article below.
