This is the email I have written to the Head of Property Services and the responsible Portfolio Holder:
"Good Morning
Being the responsible officer/member people for the fountain in the Market Square I would like to ask if it is true that it will stay closed for the whole of 2012 ?
I understand the excuse made, is because there are a number of functions on during next year and it is felt that we as a Council cannot operate the fountain and have functions on at the same time.
I hope this is not true; if it is, I cannot believe that such a defeatist approach is being taken, this will make us look so inadequate as a Council.
This year we had much of the Market Square dug-up for much of the summer, next year we are going to (if the rumours are true) have the fountain closed for the whole of the year.
Please, whatever the reason/excuse, do not do this; the fountain is loved by the Towns-people and the visitors to our Town: it is the focal point of the Market Square - another consideration, give the retailers there a fighting chance too, please.
Kind Regards
Roger (Walkden)
