22:2976310My wife and myself have been running the Kent Splenectomy Trust for 17years now and our fact sheets go out to the public by email and post all around the world.
This time of the year is when the older ones like myself get aletter from the GP to get the Flu Vaccine which we both have done already.
But what is not known by all the public is that if you have had your spleen out what ever age you are,you must have that flu Vaccine each year and also keep a 7day dose of preventive antibioties, the dose is a 125mg tabet up to the age of 5years,250mg tablet from 5years onwards. The adult dose is 500mg twice daily. Some Gps will say for 2years after splenectomy, some say take them for the rest of your life.
As a trust we work with Drs and the NHS to keep up to date with our fact sheets.
if any of you have or know someone who has had their spleen out and need to know what they must or must not do please aske them to email me ASP or even Phone my M07758710889 we are open 24/7 so do not wait ,if you have had your spleen out there is a risk of infection for the rest of your life, even if you had it out many years ago and have never been ill.Meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia is a well known as a life-threatening disease. It IS ALOT MORE COMMONER in people without a spleen and our son died some 12years after he had his speen out and had stoped his antibiotics. But there is help out there so please do not wait till you get unwell phone me or better still get to a hospital but you must not wait.
So what are the symptoms to look for they are the same as meningitis -Headache,Vomiting ,Fever, A Rash. Drowsiness. If you have no spleen and get any of them you must get to Hospital right away do not take up what time you have by phoning a GP.There is alot more you need to know so get one of my fact sheets they cost nothing but could stop you dieing.
