I posted a while back that I was getting back into my old hobby, making static model aircraft. Well I have completed my first build. I chose a fairly simple first kit but one that would give my new airbrush a good testing and that meant the mottle camo on a Luftwaffe subject.
Sharp eyed Luftwaffe experts may see the deliberate mistake, it was my mistake as the correct part was in the kit - enough said about that.
I am not happy with the canopy. I really need to work on the masking a lot more.
Some technical stuff that any modellers who read this will want.
The kit is an Airfix 1:48 scale Bf109 E-7 Trop
(Yes, Airfix, since Hornby has taken them over they have got their act together now producing a new line of kits that Tamiya would be proud of for their accuracy, fit and detail)
Paints, acrylics: Vallejo Model Air with Vallejo Model Colour for detail brush painting. These are a brilliant range, far superior to Humbrol.
Washes: Modelmates. I am not pleased with their effect and may well revert to oil washes in future or try out Flory washes instead.
Gun smoke residue and engine exhaust residue: Artist pastels, sanded to create a fine power brushed on.
Varnishes: Vallejo
Glues: Mr Cement S, Revell Contacta, Superglue and PVA all used
Very little filler used - Vallejo again
Primer: Vallejo grey
Airbrush - H&S Evolution 2 in One Fpc. 0.4mm nozzle used, 0.15mm for mottle.
Anyway - I have three more simple 1:48 scale kits to practise on before I start on my preferred 1:32 scale more complex kits.
All three are Spitfire types:
Tamiya Spitfire mk5b Trop
Tamiya Spitfire mk1 in Battle of Britain camo.
Airfix Seafire (according to some the best kit ever producde by Airfix well up to Tamiya standard)
