As it happens, I had just got out of my car up at Swingate farm and an ME109 flew straight over my head at a couple of hundred feet, camera still in the boot.
Well said Harry, but let us not forget the Wellington bomber crews who were bombing Berlin at the same time. They angered and embarrassed Hitler into bombing our cities instead of airfields, giving Fighter Command a much needed breathing space.
Our hats go off to all of them, and a great debt of gratitude is owed to those who survived, and those who didn't come home.
