    I agree that squatters should have no rights when they have entered and settled in a house that is normally occupied, perhaps the owners are on holiday.

    Where houses have lain empty for years and no one - private owners or the local authority have done anything with them, it's not surprising that they are used by squatters; many are done up and made habitable.

    There are two different issues here.
