Labour or Conservative, without a papers width between them in on the 'middle ground'what is the alternative.Where is the fire,where is the passion.We need an Ernie Bevin or a Anthony Eden.I am sick to death of the leaders of the major parties being afraid of bringing some colour and radicalism to the proceedings.I am also sick of shiny faced ex Q.C's trying to empathise with the way I think.I despise the rampant free market economy that has left my country without a shred of integrity,the only thing that seems to be important now is the unbridled pursuit of wealthWhere is Dover in that equation,the Dover that I saw called on a plaque from the Belgium people 'The last bastion of freedom'.

i think that the days of firebrand, radical politicos has gone.
the marketing people have taken over, presentation is all, or nearly all.
a good scriptwriter is the last piece of the jigsaw.
i can see very little difference between people like mr cameron, mr osborne and mr clegg who seem to share the same tailor and hairdresser.
on the government benches it is usually the women that seem to share the same as above.
the main thing is that original thought and radical ideas are rooted in the past and that getting elected with as little stir as possible is the sole objective.

I don't share your views,
of course Im an old lefty and proud to be so,
Labour/tory/lib dem have varied ways forward.
you are correct on faceless people, thats where we are today sadly, media has taken over, and the politicians think more of any type of publicity and looking the image they think the general public want to see(which they often get wrong)
There used to be personalities but they long gone.
Whether you like them or not they were characters;
prescott when he, at a labour conference ripped up the pledges and gave a
speech on labour off the cuff
HESTLETINE;
When he got on stage, marching up and down on stage at a tory conference
taking mickey out of labour
Mo Molem
loved everyone

you have left the labour party after being one of its longest standing and active members.
you would not have done that if you still believed they were representing the red shade of opinion.
the same applies to the other side, i continually hear staunch blue fans bemoaning the leadership style and plans they have in the event of an election victory.

My reasoning for leaving the labour party is varied and not realy for the forum, that said i still believe the Labour party is the closest to my ideals.
All the parties in differing ways have lost there way, and at the moment MP's of all parties are at the lowest ebb ever.
I hope for the sake of the country/democracy this sorts itself out.
As for the elction my prediction is;
GWYN WILL HOLD DOVER
Charlie 2nd
Vic comes 4th with a higher than usual vote, but still far short of the 3 major parties.
Hung parlianment, and the small parties/individuals elected will have a big imput into the next parlianment.
BNP comes close to winning its first westminster seat
just my prediction
lets see how close i get.
of course paulb could see who else makes predictions
and look after election to see which forumite gets closest
Finanly
As iv said many times, its fine getting rid of a govt, but thats not the way to solve the problem, to replace it with one that wont dont things much differently not the way,

i agree fully with your last point keith.
i would amend your view that the BNP will get close to winning a seat.
i still have some old east end contacts, i expect barking to fall to them, followed later by the barking and dagenham council.

Further reading your post I was long standing in the party, but theres lots more done a lot more years, some still active.
I did my 25 odd years, enjoyed most of it, but felt it was time to have some family time and that couldnt happen all the time i was on the council()s)
Could I also add I made many friends within the Tory/lib dem parties over that time, and worked closely with a lot of them.
There were times in working groups/scrutiny/council at KCC DDC where you would not know which party was in control as all parties worked together.
i'M enjoying MY time now, looking in from the outside.
When on occassions i attend town/District/county
I want to scream at those present
but I hold my breath, smile, and think,
now I remember why I left,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Those were the days Keith
Indeed - I miss the passion that politics used to foster, the debates and conversations that made your head sing. Foot, Benn, Bevan, Eden, hard acts to follow. Old Ken Clarke provides some fun, but fun is lacking now in much of politics.

I still like a bit of fun in the Council Chamber,I even made Dubris a few weeks ago when one of the Councillors (Australian) said we should keep the port British,my comment didn't go far,but Mike Eddy came out with a strong Aussie accent with his reply,and the reporter thought it was me.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
