It was an interesting article, although a misconception appears to have permeated this thread in as much as it is DHB's privatisation that has a 'French firm' as front runner and not the 'Peoples Port'. The Peoples Port will source it's finance through the city, some of which will probably include foreign investors seeking a long term regular payment rather than control.
Alexander uses the example of Americans being the only ones who refer to themselves by the continent on which they live. A point to remember here is that they also have a great deal of foreign investment in their infrastructure, a lot of it Japanese.
The one truly global thing in our modern world is finance. Investors seek stable returns and good returns for their cash wherever they can find it irrespective of national borders.
