George Osborne has been forced to pay £160 for an upgrade when he was caught with a Standard rail ticket in the First Class carriage on a Virgin train from Euston - oh dear, you just couldn't make it up.

he may have been setting an example to us all by buying a second class ticket neil.
then he saw a working class chap, panicked and took refuge in first class.

Maybe the plonker could not find a seat with the riff-raff, I bet it all gets called a misunderstanding with the blame going on some nameless clerk.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

"Claims that George Osborne tried to sit in a first class train carriage with only a standard ticket have been flatly rejected by the Chancellor's office and rail company Virgin."

He should have travelled at the weekend. You can upgrade for £10 at the weekend.

funny how virgin rail suddenly altered their story, must have remembered that the west coast franchise is still up for grabs.

Osborn`s Great train snobbery, ticketgate affair resulted in the ticket inspector demanding he pay £ 160 surcharge for him to sit
in first class with a standard ticket.A pack of journalists waited for him at Euston but he choose a security gate but met more
journalists who asked all the obvious questions without reply. His embarrassment compounded by him being on the franchise
line the government took away from Virgin together with his Westminster tag being `out of touch rich boy`and a Chancellor
millionaire who thinks he is above the normal rules and laws.In the Cabinet he is not alone on that score.
So much for we are all in it together........
