For some reason I thought the breeding of them had been banned due to the health problems caused by them being pure bred. Just seen two in town, lovely dogs but they looked too heavy and their breathing didn't sound very comfortable. Apparently their life span is around 10 - 12 but few reach that before their heart gives out, sounds rather cruel to me.
I think that the kennel club and Crufts changed the breed criteria a few years back, to try and reverse the extreme damage that was being done to them. Don't recall any bans, though.
Howard,we have got a Victorian Bulldog. She is very athletic and doesn't suffer from some of the chronic illness issues that may still haunt this fantastic breed.
Good to hear that John as they are one of my favourite breeds, people in Market Square were stopping the owners to admire the ones today but to me they looked like they were struggling even in this cold weather. Whilst we are on the subject of rare breeds have you seen Peter Wallace as people have been trying to contact him without success. Maybe the Border Agency sent him back to Sunderland?
Hi Howard,I have seen Peter. He has been very busy what with starting a new job and other on going projects .In regards to discussing the town of his birth, I tend to defer on that being a fan of the black and whites.
