Good for MK. The sooner Dover follows suit the better. Chewing gum is a pointless and disgusting habit and while I would defend anyone's right to do it in private, I don't want to see supermarket checkout staff doing it and when people dispose of it by dropping it on the ground or sticking it under their chair in a pub, well, that's just Gross.

Peter totally disagree with you. Like everything there are sensible chewers like myself who would not dream of putting it anywhere other than a bin. Sometimes it's what you need to wake yourself up on a night shift or on a long drive!

I agree with you Helen. We don't all go around chewing loudly with our mouths open and sticking it anywhere other than in a bin. I find it useful after eating food laden with garlic and 'im indoors complains

I chew gum too - it freshens my mouth.
I always dispose of it sensibly, but agree with Peter that there are people who even chew it badly and just spit it out on the pavement.
When I was the Business Support Manager, I was able to get Kent Highways to agree to a cleaning schedule for the Town Centre and the hot-spots when advised to them. Not sure they would be able to do it now as money is so much tighter.

It's funny we have a thread on chewing gum when I think the current issues with our pavements is dog poo. While out on a long training run today I pounded the majority of Dovers pavements and was absolutely disgusted with the amount of poo I had to dodge. These are not coming from little dogs either! London road possibly the worst and surprisingly River seems to have the same problem.
Never mind the chewing gum, I'd rather tread in that than dog poo

the worst area that i know for dog toffee is the western heights which i find surprising. i would have thought that dog owners who put themselves out to ensure their charges get a good run around would have cleaned up after them.
the paths tend to be narrow making it nearly impossible not to tread in some, unlike pavements where you can sidestep normally.

You may have to blame the old folk Howard. A dog is most likely to be on a lead if it toffee's the track.
