After busy weekends in the business we often used to take a carload of trade waste to the tip and pay Viridor £6.80+VAT for the privilege of dumping it. So this morning I loaded up the trusty jam jar and headed up to Whitfield. Now that Biffa have the contract, the minimum for trade waste is £54.25 +VAT. So the rubbish is still in the back of the car.

For loads under 100kg that's an increase of 697%.

That'll be how they're going to make up for the below market value bid that won them the contract!

Then I don't get the receipt to prove to the DDC environmental health people that I am disposing of my waste legally.

Good point, theres quite a few traders in town that use private contractors to get rid of their waste with the giant wheelie bins.Would it be cheaper to do this?

Some years ago I asked KCC why they didn't provide recycling facilities for businesses and back came the reply, Brussels doesn't set targets for that.

That just about sums things up. KCC and DDC got a lot of stick over the wheelie bins even though they were only obeying orders from the EU. I have lost count of the bijou terraced cottages in East Kent that I have seen and are blighted by these monstrosities fronting the houses. I suppose it must be the same in the picturesque villages in Bavaria and the Tyrol.

I have nowhere to store wheelie bins and DDC don't do their trade waste sacks any more.
