Some of you may remember me writing about my younger brother on minimum wage and not being able to get any kind of benefit to supplement his meagre income ?
Well, he did start to receive some working tax credits and a small amount of housing benefit; this left him enough to go out once a week - just the once, either a Friday or Saturday evening.
Last week he had a letter from the WTC people and Shepway Housing department and they both have cut his benefits down to bare minimum - he is now £250 worse off a month.
How can the Government say you will not be worse off working, than being on benefits ?
I'm a Conservative through and through - and so is (was) my brother, but he won't vote Conservative again, as they are simply cutting the low-paid down to begging level.
There is simply no understanding, of what it's like being on the bones of your arse.
I have written to Ian Duncan-Smith and Grayling on his behalf (officially) and all I get back is tripe, absolute tripe, from their respective departments. They are either too stupid to work or understand, or are being this way on purpose.
Labour got us into this mess, but this Government is definitely not helping the (genuine) low paid at all.
Roger
