Yes the BBC do fall in love with Wimbledon every year. They go way overboard with the cream teas in south London..I used to live quite near it and the whole place goes weird. The BBC buys into this..as it helped create the social frenzy in the first place. People who dont know one end of a tennis racket from another become avid fans for 2 weeks per year. What happens in the tournaments following along afterwards in Wimbledons wake...well few are interested in.

Its sort of like Royal Ascot..a place to be seen, a place to be on the trend, and of course oh so comfortably upper middle class.

The BBC got heavily criticised for going madly over the top on the Jubilee weekend as well, they have to overkill a good idea, it seems to be part of their oddball philosophy. Look at the soporific coverage of the Olympic Torch. By the time it reaches Dover we will be worn out by overkill and the sickening smiles of the holy newscasters.

I like sport myself, the football in particular, but the tennis does really take the biscuit..night and day, day and night. The football lasts an hour and a half then everyone goes home.
