    The State has no role in interfering with the remuneration given in private companies, that is a matter for the shareholders. As for the banks, the government is a shareholder in some of them and its influence should be restricted to that.

    We are suffering now because we have a government that was financially irresponsible for 13 years, profligate with other people's money and we have to remember that.

    One thing that might make future governments more financially responsible might be to make Ministers and MPs accountable in the same way local Councillors are. I would love to see the members of the former government sued along with all those MPs who voted in favour of their irresponsible budgets and personally surcharged. It would bankrupt the lot of them though it would not raise enough money to put the problem right.
