    Howard- pc came in not as a matter of Government policy, at least not in the 80's. PC emerged from the Universities (American initially) and thrived among left wing theorists and femenists.

    One minor example still, in the Conservative Party, we do not patronise women by changing the language, for instance chairmen are still chairmen including our lady chairmen....

    I remember when some Labour wally tried to call our lady Chairmen of DDC (Amelia Williamson) 'chair' - she was very scathing and put him right down. Dont remember, whether that was Keith or Sid at the time.... (Keith kept trying that one). We certainly poured a lot of scorn on that individual in the bar afterwards....

    You will note that pc language invariably kow tows to left wing obsessions, not those of the right.
