I would like to publically give thanks to Club Toyota, the AA and especially Graham and the guys at Poulton Service Centre for their assistance on Friday.
My 11 years old Toyota Corolla that many of you have ridden in was happily purring its way towards Dover on Friday afternoon when it started to make an unusual rattling sound. it appears that the timing chain has possibly slipped off the cogs.
My old faithful friend is now seriously ill in the motor hospital with a possibly fatal engine problem and I await a call from Poulton Service Centre, who do all my servicing etc. probably on Tuesday to hear the prognosis. Initial diognosis ranges from - they may be able to skim the head to a new engine.
When the call comes, I will need to decide and possibly start looking round car showrooms.
I was going to visit the Beer Festival at Crabble Corn Mill later on Friday but unfortunately, due ton the car problem, didn't get there until Saturday afternoon.
So, since Friday I have been experienecing our great bus services - drivers are so courteous and vehicles nice and clean.
Have to go towards Deal later this morning so will be heading for Pencester Road and the No 15 or 15A.

Hope it isn't too expensive Nigel; cars are great - until they go wrong.
Your's was a fine little work-horse, hope the next one (if you need to get another car) is as good.

It was possibly some ball-bearings that caused the problem.

Coor that's an old one Paul.
Unfortunately the timing chain slipped off the teeth and, to cut a long story short, a new engine was the only answer - too expensive for the car and what would go wrong next?
I cleared the car out yesterday afternoon at Poulton Service Centre where Graham and the guys were as helpful as they've been since I first brought a Toyota back in 1991 - excellent service at a reasonable price.
How do you get so much in a small car? - 5 brollies, 3 high viz vests, 2 high viz coats, 2 folding chairs, 2 first aid kits - I could go on.
Anyway, I've done my sums and have been to look in a couple of showrooms already.

I'm selling my Volvo S80 Nigel, it'd get a lot of the above in it and with room to spare.
