  The magic key has arrived and I've just registered it by computer.
  
  Saturday the plan is HST to London then V+A for the tapestries, lunch with No1 daughter and a night at the opera (Faust at the ENO) and all transport c/o the ubiquitous Boris Bikes.

  Far too hi tech. Shanks pony plus 10 pints of real ale a far better night out followed by pudding chips mushy peas and gravy on a tray....kip on local park bench or nearest police cell.

  I heard Boris speaking about this scheme during the week.
  
  I forgot the actual figures, as I was not listening that closely, but he gave a figure for the number of bikes stolen in the last 9 months as in single figures. He also said the culprits have been caught and are being prosecuted. They will not only have to face the full sanctions of the law and whatever punishment is meeted out, but if at any time in future they want to access any of London's free transport they will be expected to earn the right through doing community service.
  
  Apparently over the same period Paris with a similar scheme had several thousand bikes stolen.
