They may be the cheapest, but can anyone explain why a mult-billion pound business like Tesco appears to be incapable of repairing its petrol pumps. For the second time in as many weeks, they have six pumps out of action. What they need is some competition as they are clearly taking Dover customers for granted. Come on, Sainsbury/Morrison/ASDA let's see a planning application for a petrol station so we can see lower prices, and maybe even some good old fashioned service!

Exactly, Brian, because competition there has driven down the price (£1.34 per litre in Tesco Dover!) We must have some of the most expensive petrol in Kent, and poor service to boot!

I think Tesco is definitely a bit cheaper otherwise motorists could vote with their feet, or in this case vote with their wheels and go elsewhere if they are not getting the service, I think its approx £1.36 down here on the main road though.
Sainsbury's folkestone £1.32.9 but Canterbury is by far the best and is well worth going there if your filling up.
Mr Hammond has three sites in dover and is keeping it high

Alan you are so right and that is part of the problem.
The Tesco's at Cherition is just a penny cheaper than at Whitfield, but diesel is 141.9 at both.
ASDA and Morrisons in Canters. are 128 for petrol and 134 for diesel, so a lot cheaper than anywhere in Dover.

A 50 litre fill up saves £3 if you drive to Canterbury for a 6p reduction, is it really worth it when you consider the cost of getting there?

Probably not Martin, but if you're going there anyway, cross over to either ASDA or Morrisons and it will be.

Petrol in the BP garage in Margate was £1 35 a ltr last night about the same as Dover.
Other than cost, though, how often have we been to tesco petrol station at a busy time to find just one person behind the counter and maybe one other filling shelves as if there were no customers at all. I got to the front of a very long queue to pay a while back - only one person on the till, dozens of cars and customers waiting - and saw a guy just behind the door. I asked politely if he might help and was told he was on his tea break, and received a hostile grimace.
