I dont know if anyone else is having the same problem, maybe its just me as Im on the edge of eternity down here on the seafront, but my TV reception is virtually non-existent.
Last night I settled in to try and watch the detective series based in Oxford called Lewis... as yours truly is partial to a bit of murder and mayhem on a sunday night, particularly in the ever so elite surrounds of Oxford, but alas I had no picture just a series of flickering boxes.
With razor sharp mental astuteness I thought of Plan B and flicked over to the non-digital analogue service but that was barely viewable with a series of wavy lines. A picture of sorts but dire.
So is this all I can hope for from modern technology?
Is anyone else having trouble and strife?
Paul, due to the good weather, down at The Gateway, you get interference from Belgium. All you can hope for is a return to the usual grim, dank days of summer.
Up here in the wasteland of Folkestone Road (joke

) I cannot get mobile phone signal or digital radio. Roll on 2012 when we are apparently due for an upgrade to the transmitter.

Ah too true Diana..its abysmal re TV at the Gateway but me being at the very limb doesnt help. The odd thing...I did a retune the other night and I picked up all the nearby French stations as clear as a bell..I even got some signal from stations as far away as Caen and Le Havre..can get all that but cant get the BBC.
Its a bummer. Learn to speak French is my best option.
Tom thanks a lot of those links, very grateful for those as there may be some help there..I will have a look shortly.

PaulB, try replacing the TV, which has probably conked out, with another one.

Quite right Alexander. PaulB, dump your old B&W set. Nostalgia's not what it was.

Thanks guys for all that info.
My TV is about 7 weeks old Alex and Tom, an all brand spanking new LG..I threw out the steam driven one which suffered an abrupt halt in its delivery when the lid blew off its boiler!! lol!
Sue yes was wondering if the Freesat situation might be a better option.
Could be a solution.

Paul
Our standards of expectations are so high these days in comparison to years ago. I can recall the early days of tv when we spent about the first 15 minutes moving the indoor aerial around the lounge following our fathers directions in order to pick up a watchable signal.

You are on a communal system so I would ask, is it just you or are your neighbours having the same problem? If they are then the site manager (or whatever) needs to sort it out.
My own feeling is that it was a bit of a rip off when the system was installed. Only one aerial system was required to feed the entire building, not the five or six that you have.

Paul, have you tried with an indoor aerial, I get very good reception here in Salisbury Road.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

No I havent tried that Jan but with this new TV which works very well when one can get a reception...will try all options.
But an interesting one there Terry. I will carry out some research with my neighbours to see how their picture is. Lovely Diana has gone and left me.....so will have to lurch further afield.
But re the aerials Terry. Have just counted them. We have 15 aerials on the roof and 15 satellite dishes attached which are supposed to be state of the art...except for one thing, you cant get a picture when the sun shines !
There are 15 blocks in the Gateway and each has its own setup by the looks of it. So there we are. Bummer!
Thank you Paul. That's the nicest thing anyone has said to me for ages! Sadly not everyone's opinion......
Our FreeSat box worked pretty well when we were there, except in very good calm weather. There ought to be a good picture considering that Hougham Transmitter is visible through a gap in the hills.
Roger: my mobile works okay out in front of the flats, so I guess it is something to do with being in a bit of a dip, but there is no way we can get the digital radio to work, although there is good reception on the old steam-driven radio.

My car radio often jumps from "Radio 2" on the display to "Easy M" at twice the volume but it's still playing Radio 2 - anyone know what's going on there?
We had a thread similar to this a few months ago and I think I said then, we've got 3 TVs and a freeview box, the Sony TV gives the best tuning and the LG the worst from the same splitter box.
