The RAF has for years had the use of the Sheikh Isa airbase in Bahrain any time it wants it. I think this is more about sending a message to the Bahrainis than to the Iranians.

Then the fallout will blow back over here. I don't think so Keith-even tongue in cheek. Hate to think what would have happened if a certain Russian sub mariner had taken the same attitude during the Cuban crisis.
No need to nick the oil -just take out the low life speculating middle men (probably UK based)-get the government to do something memorable like knocking 10p of the price of a litre. Now that would move the economy into a more prosperous position.

Vic, I know this sounds silly but are you sure you pressed 'Post Reply', I know I have forgotten to do that in the past and wondered what happened to my post.

deleted for obvious reasons, thread drift is one thing - dragging connaught park into possible conflict in the middle east is another thing altogether.

Not obvious to me Howard, what's the problem with a bit of inoffensive irrelevance? In fact it could have been a valid comment on the storm-in-a-teacup nature of the thread subject. In a small forum like this, where most members know each other personally, deleting a post without an explanation to the poster is highly discourteous and demands an apology.

Vic, there is a thread up and running on Connaught Park, there are people waiting for any housing development scheme there to be presented in order to oppose it. The general belief is that the masses would not back any such scheme, and the local Administration must take into account the democratic will of the people.
This would prevent a crisis over democracy brewing up in Dover in the first place.
If you try promoting such a scheme, we will oppose it within the remit of constitution and democracy without leaving any leaf unturned. But all this has nothing to do with the Gulf tensions.
Frankly, almost no-one agrees with you on your Connaught Park ideas.
Hopefully they won't start popping up on every thread.

Perhaps it's a new forum policy that all irrelevant posts be deleted. That would be a retrograde step. I really struggle to see any other justification for this deletion.

With you on this one Peter especially with some of the irrelevant posts that are left on here, after all we all go off on a tangent at times. In my opinion no post should be deleted unless it is offensive.

Alexander, there is no support for Vic's idea about housing on Connaught Park.

Agreed, Roger, all misunderstandings have been ironed out.
