did anyone spot in the press earlier in the week, paddy power paid out to chaps/chapesses that betted on a blues overall majority?
they now have had to pay out on a hung parliament, i suspect that the payout was not that huge and that the positive publicity was worth more than any advertising.
saying that, in the times(top peoples newspaper) on wednesday, they had a free £.10.00. bet to readers who logged onto the website and betted on the result.
naturally i went with our political guru(keith) and ended up quids in.
quiet a result really, i did not even buy the paper, it was sticking out of the letterbox of our posh couple when i went past.
Good for you Howard, that was very entrepeneurial of you. You'll soon be a full-blown BlueBarryesq capitalist!

Howard - that was on a Conservative Government, not an overall majority. I suspect that DC will be in no 10 vindicating that decision by Paddypower (as mentioned in my blog when it happened)
Howard, my late grandfather was an independent bookmaker.
I never saw him in tears which is why I have never gambled.
Bob, my great uncle too was an independent bookmaker with very swish premises in Tottenham Court Road, and a staff over 100 turf accountants. He also owned a very extensive mansion in Surrey. Sadly, in his late 70's he fell for what can only be described as a 'carpet-bagger', who, when he died not long after, grabbed his entire estate and went off to Canada to enjoy the fruits of her not very substantial labours.
Needless to say, I too shed no tears for bookies and also do not gamble.

I bet on a blues majority and I'm pleased to say it paid off. Didier Drogba's second half hat-trick sealed it. Best of all, though, was seeing the look on Alec Furguson's face when the final whistle went.
True friends stab you in the front.
