08:2376345Had this email come through this morning; I'd heard about them but not had one before. Hope no one falls for them.
"Dear Applicant,
We have reviwed your tax return and our calculations of your last years accounts a tax refund of 344.79 £ is due
Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 5-9 days in order to process it.
A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons.
For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.
Please submit the form attached to your email in order to complete your tax refund

United Kingdom Tax Office"

10:3176356Be very carefull Roger that does not sound right phone them first do not give your details out by email . I had the same done to me so I phoned the Tax office they told me they never aske for details by email,and they asked me to post the email on to them,which I did,and aweek later they got back to me telling me it was A forgery.

11:0276358If you use the online tax form filling facility it just might be OK but I would not trust it. I hope for your sake it's a real email and not spam.
While on this kind of topic. I had a phone call from my credit card company saying they thought my card might have been compromised. I had made a mess of an online order

, therefore it was most likely genuine.
The daft thing is they asked me to give my date of birth over the phone to a strange person in order to proceed. I would never give such information to a cold caller however genuine they are likely to be. I got a letter from them a few days later so it was genuine but how was I to know for sure especially as the caller was foreign.

firstly there are loads of them not just one, secondly they are called her majesty's revenue and customs nowadays.

14:3576556The tax office doesn't as a rule e mail someone about a refund. I have received similar which obviously originated in the USA judging by some of the wording.
