Join us at the EKR for a weekend in which you can step back in time to the 1960s! Have a ride on our lovingly restored 1960's trains, down to Eythorne, where there will be a selection of vintage vehicles as well as a shuttle bus to the Dover Transport Museum on the Sunday!
We will also have Dover Community Radio arranging music, so there will be plenty going on! Market stalls, museums, cafe, woodland walks, miniature/model railways and plenty more, all to be enjoyed!
Make sure you dress up! And don't forget it's Father's Day on Sunday 16th, so bring him along too!

This is, of course, a joint event on the Sunday between EKR and Dover Transport Museum, so it is possible to get the free bus from Market Square, ( on the hour, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. ) to the museum at Whitfield, enjoy the transport museum and their fantastic home made cakes etc, and travel to the railway on the connecting bus, ( open top, weather permitting!), ride on the railway and then return.

Dave & Josh.
Thanks for giving us the details, this looks like being a well attended event, keeping fingers crossed for some good weather.
This is one event that I am especially looking forward to..
EKR and DTM have worked together on many of events in the past but this will be my first experience with these jointly organized events.
Getting Dover Community Radio on board is a great addition, working with other community and heritage groups is the way forward.
Perhaps I could get a Vintage Bus from Deal to take part next year?
With both the Museum and the Railway, being great venues to visit in their own right, to experience both in one day is a great idea.

Gary C,Josh.....did you miss this post ? on another thread ?
``What a wonderful idea...............................several years ago,about 1998,we campaigned for £ 160,000 to bring the bridge
up to European standard, the Royal Engineers were involved and even British Rail were considering a line link to the main
line at Sherperdswell.
All in the hope we could finish the rail to all the mining villages etc etc.Within a few months a lorry destroyed one of the
Bridge buttresses ..............................allowing Kent Salads to be built.........strange how these things happen isn`t it.........
Perhaps Joss and Gary C could up date us the possibility of reviving the campaign.......

Hi Reg. Dreams do come true - we have plans to extend towards Elvington and eventually Eastry - perhaps not via the bridge, but there are other ways of doing it!
We just need the finances and the support of the membership and public - so please come and visit us and hear about all our exciting plans.

Gary,
Why wait till next year? If the bus was on the road in the sixties it would be welcome at this event, if not, our next joint event is on Sunday 14th July 2013, same format, but welcoming all classic cars, commercials and buses. Entry forms from

Reg, we are unsure of total costs yet, we are just working on the basic elements and planning phases at present - the finances we make at the moment are pumped straight back into developing the railway, so we need to build up the membership and passenger numbers first.
Regarding membership, you can download and send off the membership form from
www.eastkentrailway.co.uk
We are always looking for new volunteers, so come along and get stuck in, it's great fun!

Dave.
I was more thinking of using the bus to transport visitors from Deal to the event and back, like you are doing in Dover.
I will look into that.
Reg.
Meetings are on-going and when we have some firm progress, we will keep you all informed.

Just a reminder that this event is taking place this Sunday.
Take the free vintage bus from the Market Square, every hour, 11.00 to 4, enjoy fabulous home made cakes at the transport museum at Whitfield, , and view the museum and assembled sixties vehicles, from a Lambretta to a Routemaster!
Then take the open top bus out to Eythorne station for a ride to Shepherdswell on the train ( as above). Enjoy all the facilities at Shepherdswell, before the return journey.
All available on one inclusive ticket. Any more fares please!

A 1961 AEC Reliance, belongs to one of the members at Dover Transport Museum, but due to space constraints has to be kept at New Romney! ( With several other members vehicles ). Often out and about in the area.
It is booked to make an appearance at the sixties day tomorrow.
