Press Release:-
New Community Cafe Grand Opening on July 3rd
Saturday 3rd July will see the official opening of the new community Sunrise Cafe in
Snargate Street, Dover. The opening ribbon will be cut by Dover Mayor, Gordon Cowan,
at 11.30 am followed by a blessing from Deacon Michelle Legumi.
Professionally run as a social enterprise for the benefit of the whole Dover community,
the Sunrise Cafe offers tasty and affordable food in a warm environment where
everyone matters, where everyone is valued and where everyone is included. A ‘pay
what you can’ model is in place and there is an opportunity for members of the public to
donate and to gift meals for others so that no one goes hungry.
Sunrise Cafe Manager Vicky Nunn says, “We’re excited to be able to welcome
everyone to our new community cafe, and as we’re not able to give anyone a hug at the
moment, we’re hoping that our delicious home cooked food gives that much appreciated
hug instead.” The cafe will be open from Mondays to Saturdays and serve cooked
breakfasts from 8 am, mid-morning coffee and cake, followed by a daily two course lunch special served until 2pm. Full details are available on our website.
Based in the former Seafarers Centre in Snargate Street and part of the Dover Outreach
Centre umbrella, the renovation of the cafe owes much to the generous support from
both corporate organisations and individuals alike. Acting CEO and Founder of Dover
Outreach Centre, Noel Beamish states:-
“There are so many people to thank individually
for their superb support both financially and for supplying goods and services to help us
launch this unique local initiative. Without the dedicated commitment and hard work of
everyone involved, it would just not have happened.”
To promote the community spirit further, there will be a display of local artwork in the
cafe which will be refreshed every few months. Nienke Eernise is the first local amateur
artist to have her three applique wall hangings of Dover scenes displayed.
As one of the Dover Outreach Centre charity’s initiatives, the Sunrise Cafe offers local
people opportunities to volunteer, whilst gaining valuable life skills be it front of house, in
the kitchen or collecting surplus food from local supermarkets. Anyone wishing to
volunteer or donate to the Sunshine Cafe should email
