Glad you can afford to shop in Marks, Sue, when you can get good quality goods from local businesses for far less money.

oh nooo..wrong attitude there Peter I would think. We very much need to keep Marks and Spencer in the town. Heaven forbid if anymore of these main stores were to pull out. Little shops are nice enough its true but they wont sustain a community. We need little shops satelliting big ones.Ideally.

Pleased you had a nice day Sue. C'mon Peter, Sue's entitled to spend her money where ever she likes.

Peter, it all depends if you are buying convenience foods or not.
Marks are very expensive for fresh produce that is just as good and cheaper as you have said in the independents. Time to plug the Charlton Centre butchers again, he had some lovely duck and goose eggs the other day.
I must say Marks are value for money for the couple of times I have bought convenience items.

PaulB, two of the nicest and most thriving small towns in East Kent (Deal and Whitstable) both manage without a M&S. I take your point about convenience foods though, I probably only buy items in that category once or twice a year. I prefer to peel my own spuds.

Pre-peeled spuds are for the lazy and rich so have never tried them.

M/s were open in Deal four or five weeks ago my daughter went in there .Peter we have the little shops here in River /.I support the Post Office ,Coop and Katies the Green grocers and sometimes the local pubs .
Im very much a community lady .
M/s Dover is very handy for the bus .It takes nearly twenty five minutes on the bus and the same back so I dont wander far from Pencester .
Katies the greengrocers in River is fab. Sadly I don't get over as much as I used to but when the kids were still at River Primary what seems like a lifetime ago (and I still miss John, the last headmaster!) I used to shop there when I could. Lovely fresh local produce and a few nice surprises sometimes - I remember the exquisite beetroot one year!!
