  With regard to protesting - they have the right to protest peacefully and to do whilst causing the minimum disruption to others.
  
  Once trouble kicks off, as it generally does those who went to protest peacefully surely will disperse as quickly as possible so as to disassociate themselves from the disruption/violence etc. If they stay once it turns ugly, then they are surely complicit in the disorder and deserve to be treated appropriately by the authorities irrespective of their original motives, parentage, class etc.
