  Please find below a statement from DFDS Seaways (formerly Norfolkline) Dover - France ferry operator on the announcement that a 24 hour national public sector strike across Belgium is planned for this weekend, causing disruption to the entire Belgium rail network.

  In response to the announcement that a 24 hour national public sector strike across Belgium is planned for this weekend
  
  DFDS Seaways (formerly Norfolkline) Dover - France ferries has space currently available for additional car passengers looking to travel to and from the UK this coming Sunday and Monday (29 and 30 January).
  
  All passengers looking to avoid the strike action threatening the entire Belgium rail network, which will also affect Eurostar services to and from Brussels, are advised to call DFDS Seaways as soon as possible to secure a crossing this Sunday and Monday to travel with their car.
  
  DFDS Seaways sails between Dover and Dunkirk, which is situated in the North of France, with easy access from the main European arterial roads. The Port of Dunkirk is only 97 miles from Brussels, and is an ideal departure point from France and the Continent.
  
  *Please note that DFDS Seaways does not carry foot passengers on its Dover - Dunkirk route.*

  This strike also affecting Eurostar trains today. Of course the EU Summit is being held today in Brussels. All the political bods are back from revelling in Davos..only to be met with hordes of Belgians striking over the cuts... Wonder what the bill was for Davos and would it appease the Belgians to know...!!!

  LATEST BRUSSELS AFP — Belgium was in chaos Monday, just hours before an EU summit, with transport and other public services halted by a national strike called by unions in protest at EU-ordered austerity measures.
  
  It is the first such general strike in Belgium since 2005 and the first since 1993 launched jointly by the country's three main unions, which are angry over public spending cuts of more than 12 billion euros for 2012.
  
  Belgian rail workers began their industrial action late Sunday, with the first trains stopping around 9:00 pm (2000 GMT).
  
  High-speed international services on Eurostar and Thalys and inter-city Belgian trains were also all halted on Monday, and no buses, trams or metro trains were running.

  these austerity measures are hitting everyone and we see how the workers in some countries react much more vehemently than our own.

  Tsk, tsk. People should be more careful...this is how wars start...having Belgium and strike in the same sentence.
