I heard on the local radio ,today, that local church volunteers will be on the streets of St Helier in the late evening offering help and advice to any youngsters that appear to be the worse for wear.

They will be carrying free bottles of water for the dehydrated, wipes for those that may have over indulged and spoiled their clothing, flip flops for any girl in 'footwear distress' ie broken heel or lost shoes plus a lift home if needed or where possible.

Their mandate is not to preach or convert these kids to Christianity but merely put their strong beliefs and faith into action by helping others. A number of organisations and different churches are involved.

It's certainly a new and different approach to the problem of young binge drinkers and if it saves one young girls or boys life then it certainly would have been worth it.

It sounds quite laudable but could it work on the streets of Dover?.
