No longer do we hear such things as "Late Night Final" from paper sellers of long ago. For some reason the word "Pacifist" popped into my brain earlier. This was always being shouted by an ancient lady on a corner of Tottenham Court Road who was selling Peace News.
So here's a question for you. In the days of my youth we would visit a nearby town. In front of an establishment called Berry's, a lady would sit inviting clients in. Unfortunately she had a very pronounced lisp so what she said was "Come to Mishesh Berrishes".
Anyone old enough to remember what and where the place was?

When I was a lad few years ago now,I was shouting out on the corner by the works book shop "Get your Star here" I was a newspaper corner selling lad, Saturday was our big day with the football results full time and half times.I was oneside and old Harry was on the other, you might have seen him or even know him he had a very big lump on the side of his neck.

I seem to remember Stewart Dimmock being called the "Town Yeller" because DTC would not let him be the Town Crier. He would have been very good at it (he was, on the few occasions he was Town Yeller) and did look the part when dressed up - I think he had to pay for his own outfit.
If I'm wrong Stewart. I apologise.

The costume I wore was made for the Dover Pageant.
The hat was taken off my head whilst I spoke with Marion Munt in Pencester Gardens.
There is an official uniform in storage in Fort Whitfield.
The reason given for the then Town Council not wanting a Town Crier was they felt that it would distract from the important job of the Town Sargent.
