Because of the drought which is affecting North America the price of corn has risen quite sharply. Because corn is used in many different foodstuffs this will push up the price of many of the food items we buy. It also gives the supermarkets a good excuse to raise their prices. If you see offers for cheaper foods, pasta for example, buy them now as the price is set to increase quite drastically.
Ironically, environmentalists haven't helped the cause by insisting that corn supplies be put to use by turning corn into biofuels and not where they should be going - ie. feeding people.
40% of US grown corn is diverted from food production to filling people's gas tanks in order to save the planet.
You see - environmentalists really do like making ordinary people's lives very, very difficult, at best.

Philip, of spaghetti runs out, we can eat rice.
Tastes great with a chunky vegetable tomato sauce, to which are added herbs of the Provence, hot chili powder of Cayenne, and chopped olives from Greece.
The drought will also be an incentive for Canada to produce more corn.
The effects of the drought in America will be noticed next year, when the silos of last year's crop are empty.

Corn - Maize? or Wheat?
Presumably Maize?
I can't eat it anyway! Or wheat.
Re Pasta - if you want wheat-free pasta you can buy rice pasta too.
