I once was involved with a group who reserved no. 34046 Braunton at Barry Scrapyard in 1982-here pictured. However we eventually went for 34028 'Eddystone' which of course after spending many years of restoration at our base at Sellindge is now hard at work on the Swanage Railway. When we marked up 'Braunton' we were active in an abortive earlier attempt to preserve the East Kent Railway - as indicated on the running board! 34046 was particularly stripped and corroded but eventually Multi Millionaire Jeremy Hoskins acquired her and the engineers at the West Somerset Railway did a brilliant job.The work included a brand new tender.
Note the Folkestone phone number on the smoke deflector! It's just occurred to me that the West Somerset guys wrote the cab off seen here and we acquired it at Sellindge. We set about restoring it and it is now fitted to Battle of Britain class loco 'Sir Kieth Park' on the Severn Valley Railway.
