the perennial problem was covered in a report on bbc local news earlier with input from our honourable member.
the truckers came out as the victims to me as they are ambushed whilst stuck in the queue to get into the port as the prospective migrants get evermore adventurous knowing that if they get caught they will be freed straight away.
the truckers complain that the french police leave them as sitting ducks and the local council leader says that they don't have the resources to tackle the problem and says that the uk should provide funding.

indeed brian but surely an answer should be found?
much as i sympathised with the bloke from calais he was aiming his gun in the wrong direction.
it is his own government that are letting people in and through to the channel port so they should be funding operations in calais though i suspect that the results in last weeks council elections were in his thoughts when interviewed.

The only responsibility we have is stopping these illegal immigrants from setting foot on our soil, it is not our job to sort out France's various problems with these people.

Once a migrant has entered Greece by whatever means he can then travel to Calais without ever having to show his passport to any immigration officials, thanks to the Schengen agreement which covers all travellers, not just EU nationals. A misconceived treaty with utterly predictable consequences.

Jan and Peter exposé the failings of the EU succinctly, as an island it should be very straightforward for us to decide who we wish to accommodate. The French, not for the first time in history, want to make their problem our problem.

Coming back from Calais yesterday we were surprised to have our passports thoroughly examined by both French and British authorities. Most unusual.

We go over about once a month and have hardly ever had more than a 5 minute wait.
